FINRA Investor Education Foundation Grants Program
The mission of the FINRA Investor Education Foundation is to provide underserved Americans with the knowledge, skills and tools necessary for financial success throughout life. Through a combination of grantmaking and direct investor programming, the FINRA Investor Education Foundation works to educate and protect investors in communities around the county and at military bases around the world.
FINRA-NEFE Partnership
The FINRA Investor Education Foundation partners with NEFE to administer the Foundation’s grant programs. This partnership is based on the shared goal of protecting American investors through innovative research and effective education programs that encourage sound saving and investment decisions. While both NEFE and FINRA Investor Education staff members review proposals, all final grant decisions are made by the FINRA Investor Education Foundation Board of Directors. Once project funding is awarded, FINRA Foundation staff members perform day-to-day management of the grant projects, including communicating with grantees and evaluating progress.
FINRA Grant Application Process
The FINRA Foundation accepts Project Concept forms at any time during the year, with cut-off dates corresponding to three annual funding decision dates. Information on 2009 grant opportunities is available on the FINRA Foundation Web site. You may sign up on the Web site for an e-mail newsletter that will alert you to grant program news and information as it becomes available.
The mission of the Foundation for Financial Planning, established in 1995, is to help people take control of their financial lives by connecting the financial planning community with those in need. The FFP awards grants to nonprofit organizations that use financial planners who volunteer to help adult Americans in financial difficulties.
The foundation has awarded over $2 million in grants to organizations with programs that help Americans meet financial challenges brought about by difficult circumstances. The FFP funds its grants program through the earnings of its endowment fund, which was created by the financial contributions of more than 10,000 individual financial planners and dozens of financial services companies.
NEFE-FFP Partnership
To meet an increasing need for financial counseling and education, NEFE and the FFP joined forces in October 2006 to further the goals of both organizations and advance the cause of helping people gain control of their financial lives.
By working together, capitalizing on each other’s strengths, and avoiding duplication of efforts, the partnership enables both organizations to apply their resources more efficiently. In administering the FFP grants program, NEFE handles inquiries, assesses eligibility, and conducts initial reviews to gauge fulfillment of funding priorities. Decisions about which projects will receive further consideration or awards rest with the FFP board. NEFE monitors grantee progress after awards are made.
April 30 is the annual deadline for FFP grant applications. Awards are generally made in the fall.
