Listening To Learn: Assessing the Needs of Personal Finance High School Teachers in Tennessee

This project from the University of Tennessee Extension received funding from NEFE and the FINRA Investor Education Foundation to research personal finance education in Tennessee by collecting data from high school teachers who have, are currently, or will teach the subject. The project concept stems from legislation passed in 2010 requiring all public high school seniors in Tennessee to complete a half-semester credit of personal finance prior to graduation. There was a set of state-adopted standards outlining the content to be covered (income, money management, spending, credit, saving, and investing), but no official text for the course was developed.
